The City Council and the Mayor generally have a host of important issues that
come before them for their attention. While all of these
issues are ultimately the Council's responsibility, they may, as a
body, choose to seek the assistance and expertise of members of the
community. They may choose to form advisory committees, commissions,
and boards to assist them in this way. The Mayor is responsible for
appointing members to these advisory bodies and for setting them their
tasks. With few exceptions they have no actual decision-making
authority, but they provide an invaluable service to the City Council,
the Mayor, and the community.
